The Woman Code: 20 Powerful Keys to Unlock Your Life

Every woman lives by a code, whether she realizes it or not. It informs how she treats others and herself, how much she expects of herself, and how far she is willing to go in order to find success. But is the code we're living by truly helping us create the lives of purpose and fulfillment we desire? Or are we sacrificing the deeper things for mere achievement?

In this inspiring book, Sophia A. Nelson calls women to live out a powerful life code that will lead them to purposeful and successful lives. With the wisdom that comes from experience, Nelson reveals to women

· the true meaning of "having it all"
· how to take better care of their minds, bodies, and souls
· how to achieve professional excellence without compromising their values
· how to find lasting love and purpose in life beyond their accomplishments
· how to navigate the sisterhood of women, to build collaboration rather than competition
· how to heal from past hurts, rejection, and life's inevitable storms
· and much more

The Woman Code is a way of living, of navigating life's challenges, and of interacting positively with other women. It's a way of pursuing our dreams and our deepest desires. It reveals a universal and timeless set of principles of the mind, body, and spirit that help women balance the demands of work, home, family, and friendship. The Woman Code not only calls on women to practice purpose in their lives, it shows them how to do it with grace.

My Impressions:
First off let me say, I really wanted to enjoy this book. It comes so highly recommended my mainly prominent people that I was sure I would enjoy it fully. I read the sleeve and the book sounded powerful and insightful. So when it arrived, I was excited to get to read this book. Too quickly though I became very discourage by the message the author was sending to her readers.
As a Christian, as a mother, friend and a follower of Christ I cannot support this book. From Chapter one and throughout the entire book the authors message to unlocking the joy in your life is to put yourself first! The main focus of the book is based on a Me, Me, Me and I, I, I approach that is preached throughout that it becomes very difficult to read. I found the song " Just Me, Myself and I" going through my head as I read.  As Christians we are called to be servants, putting others first, not ourselves.
Since this is a Christian book and a Christian publishing company promotes this book I think it should be stated that this book does not references Christ and there are no scripture references, but instead promotes Christian principles that you might find in the Bible. It is more of a self-help type of book.
There were sections of the book that I did enjoy and examples of putting others first, but it was not the central theme. I enjoyed The Spiritual Code's that are found in Chapter 3 and parts of the Relational Code. The author has some sound, biblical advice regarding gossiping, controlling your tongue, be quick to apologize when you have hurt someone or gone against biblical principles, and learning to have healthy relationships and avoiding toxic ones.

2015 Daily Planner-CWA

Features include:
  • Two-page Weekly layout with menu planning and to-do list
  • Two-page Month layout
  • Year Calendars with place for notations
  • Perforated Shopping Lists
  • Tasks Lists and Projects & Events Sections
  • Information Section

I really enjoyed this daily planner and its versatility. The cover was inviting with a lovely scripture at the bottom. Good binding that makes it easy to fold in half and keeps it sturdy for long term usage. Here are a few things I really loved about this planner:

Pros:
- 2 year mini calendar at front of book which is great for bloggers to see what blogged about in the past and mark popular posts to do follow-up’s on.
-Can make own monthly tabs to be within the “month” section by cutting along the dotted lines or keeping as one long page.
-Light weight and compact enough to carry in your purse or backpack without feeling weighed down.
-Bible verses and quotes throughout make for great character studies with qualities such as attitude, negativity, contentment, impulse control, happiness, thankfulness and godly character
- Weekly view: loved the way this is organized. I adored the task list at the top with a mini calendar in-between, and then the week laid out with a menu section for each day.
- Multiple tabs: year, month, week, tasks, priorities, info and shopping help keep things easily organized and provide quick go to references.

Cons:
-Weekly view- task list for week takes up about 2/3rds of the page and this may not leave enough space for people with multiply children to set tasks for a week. Worked well with 2 kids splitting the list into 2 sections one for each child.
-The tabs are not very sturdy and with as much use as we did with our book they got bent up and slightly torn. Not sure they would hold up for an entire year.

Overall this planner is well worth the cost of $13.99. It made my homeschooling life much easier!

The CWA Review Crew- Christian Women Reviewing

The Heart of Christmas (Whiskey Creek #7)

Just call her Christmas Eve…

Eve Harmon has always enjoyed Christmas, but this year it reminds her of everything she doesn’t have. Almost all her friends are married now, and that’s what Eve wants, too. Love. A husband and kids of her own. But the B-and-B she manages and even Whiskey Creek, the small Gold Country town where she was born and raised, suddenly seem…confining.

As Eve turns thirty-five, she’s worried that her future will simply be a reflection of her past. She’s dated all the eligible men in the area. There’s no one she could even imagine as a husband—until a handsome stranger comes to town. Eve’s definitely attracted to him, and he seems to have the same reaction to her. But his darkly mysterious past could ruin Eve’s happily ever after—just when it finally seems within reach. Just when she’s counting on the best Christmas of her life!

My Impressions:

This is the sixth book in the Whiskey Creek series by Brenda Novak. Although I have only read two other book in this series, there was sufficient background and information on the characters and stories that I did not feel lost. This was a simply charming contemporary book that really set me into the Christmas spirit. I love books that have strong,  independent female leads that take charge of their lives and do not wait for things to happen, but go out and take action. Granted she was feeling like a loser since all her friends were getting married and having kids and she was single with no prospects in the near future, but still Eva is fierce.

This was a great, easy weekend read that has everything you would expect from Brenda: great romance, twits and turns, witty humor,  surprises, and mystery all wrapped up in a nice sexy bundle. Fast paced book with great characer development and in very interesting plot makes this one more winner for Brenda.

Two Great Contests:

Excerpt:

Moving slowly to compensate for her hangover, she managed to prop herself against the headboard and, once there, frowned at her bedmate.

Who the heck was he?

She had no idea, but she was relieved to see that he was no bum off the street. He wasn’t even one of those “he looked a lot more attractive last night” kind of pickups everyone joked about. This guy was so far above average that she began to wonder why he wasn’t already taken. Heaven forbid that was the case! She didn’t see a ring on his left hand, which rested on the pillow above his head. But he had to have some story. If he looked this good sleep-tousled, she could only imagine what he’d be like once he had a chance to clean up.

It was his bone structure, she decided. Those pronounced cheekbones. The narrow bridge across his nicely shaped nose. The distinct ridge of his upper eye sockets. He also had a strong chin and a manly jaw, which certainly didn’t detract.

So maybe she couldn’t point to just one or two features. With his long, sandy-colored hair spread across his pillow, he resembled a fallen angel—and his body further enhanced that image. Although bedding covered his lower half—thank goodness—she could see his torso. He was built like a greyhound or panther, lean and sinewy and ideally proportioned with very little body hair. What body hair he did have was golden and downy, as appealing as his tanned skin.

He’d make a nice subject for a painter, she mused, someone looking for refined masculine beauty—a man who could even be called elegant.

But not everything about him was elegant. When she looked closer, she could see that he had some very unusual scars….

What types of injuries could’ve caused those? she wondered. It seemed to her that he’d been shot, and more than once. Several round, bullet-size marks dotted his chest. Then there was a long, jagged scar on his side that must’ve come from something else….

Out of nowhere—he didn’t open his eyes first, so she had no warning—he grabbed her wrists in a crushing grip and slammed her onto her back.

Eve gasped as she stared up at him. Gone was the image of an angel, fallen or otherwise. Shocked at being so easily and unexpectedly overpowered, she couldn’t even scream. His fierce expression, as if he was intent on causing her bodily harm, made it worse.

Had she brought home a homicidal maniac? Was he about to kill her?

The terror that surged up must’ve shown on her face because he suddenly came to his senses. He gave his head a shake. His expression cleared and, letting go, he eased off her and slid back onto his side of the bed.

“Sorry about that. I thought…” His words trailed off, and he covered his eyes with one arm as if he needed a moment to pull himself together.

Her heart was now pounding in unison with her head. But once she could speak somewhat normally, she prompted him to finish his sentence. “Thought what?”

His lips turned down. “Never mind. I was dreaming.”

She pressed a hand to her chest as though she could slow her galloping pulse. “It couldn’t have been a pleasant dream.”

“They never are,” he muttered.
