What I Love About Drake-April 2015

Favorite Things We Did: You learned to ride your bike on your own this month. You decided you were ready for the training wheels to come off and then you took off! You had me hold you for one trip up and down the road and then you felt you were good to go, and you were! You had no problems riding, turning, breaking, you were an old pro. We also dyed Easter Eggs, celebrated Easter with a great hunt indoors, since it poured rain for 3 straight days before Easter and all day on Easter. You got to meet Jamie Benn, captain for the Dallas Stars. to top the month off you also finished your first AWANA Sparks book all the way through and started your 2nd book.

What Things You Are Into

Things we enjoy doing together: Rangers opening day! Yep, this is the first time we have actually been able to go to opening day with the Rangers. I have always had to work and could not take off, but this year we got to go and had AMAZING seats to boot! We also played our first glow in the dark mini golf game. We went with Mason and Delaney and met Delaney's friend  who works there. We also got to see the Total Lunar Eclipse on the 4th.

What you want to be when you grow up: I don't think this one is changing anytime soon. You are stuck on professional sports player with baseball and hockey. I have come to accept it. There are times through you say you want to work for Green Peace and Mercy for Animals as well. You hate watching their videos, but keep watching them.

New Sayings: "That's so gay. He's so gay. She's so gay. Your gay." Pretty much any way you can say it, you have been saying it. This is literally driving all of us crazy. Your sister started it a few months back, outgrew it, but it stuck with you. It has to be the biggest thing you get in trouble for lately. You get so upset that you get in trouble, yet you keep on using this phrase.


Struggles and Accomplishment: Honesty has been a big issue with you this month. You have been telling alot of lies and stick to them even when you are busted. Soap is not your friend. That's all I will say on that topic. You are also really missing your daddy. You still cry for him most nights and ask a 1000 questions.

Your Style: Does naked Drake count? You would prefer to be in your underwear all day with your blanket draped across you. You seem to think that is "getting dressed". Music wise you still love gospel: Toby Mac, Skillet, David Crowder Band, Capitol Kings, Mercy Me etc. You also love Maroon 5, Big time Rush, One Direction and Taylor Swift.

What I Love About Delaney-April 2015

Favorite Things We Did: Opening day at the Rangers! Oh yea, you know you  loved it :) Plus we jamed to the radio all the way out. My absolute favorite thing we did though was shopping for your prom dress and accessories. We went to lots of different stores looking for the perfect dress. It, of course, had to be purple. Finally, we found the perfect dress that was off the shoulders, long,lacy and purple!

We also chilled at the Shakespeare Festival of Dallas for homeschool days of course. Then you took your first dance lessons with Aaron to get ready for prom. You learned to waltz, 2 step, cuban shuffle, quick step, and a few more dances over the course of a couple of weeks.


What Things You Are Into: You Tubers:Dan Howell  and Phil Lester, Pewdipie, Weekly Chris, your boyfriend still, heavy metal music: Asking Alexandria, Sleeping with Sirens, Say We Can Fly, Of Mice and Mend to name a few.


 


Things we enjoy doing together: Checking out creepy rides going down the road, watching weird you tubers, jamming to Asking Alexandria, song 6 and 8. Getting popcorn buckets full of Slurpee's. Celebrating National Sibling Day

What you want to be when you grow up:........ You have not mentioned any change from last few months till this month.

New Sayings:" I got this" or "Mum, trust me. I got this". You say this a lot when I tell you I am worried, freaking out, or think there is more going on then what you are saying.

Struggles and Accomplishment: We agree to disagree that your boyfriend is becoming controlling. You can see a significant change in the way you to interact and it has begun to make me question your relationship. I notice you are not as happy as you were. You seem to need his approval before you act and that bothers me. We have had several talks about controlling relationships. What they look like, how they start, what to do., etc. Yet I feel its been mute. I hope I am wrong, but I am definitely watching. You seem to be struggling with who you are when you are not with Aaron. You appear to have allowed him to define you and I cannot stand it.

Your Style: right now pretty much anything that you think will make Aaron happy. This actually really annoys me, which in turns annoys you.

My Impressions: 

 The thing I loved about this book was how it did not define what meditation is, only how to perform it and when it should be utilized. I liked this concept because it allows the parent to talk to their children about the different aspects of meditation, especially regarding religion, in a way that works for their family. I talk to my kids about meditating on Gods word, His promises, etc. While that works for my faith, it may not for someone else. The beauty of this book is you can tweak it for your own family. I do not know if that is what the author intended or not, but it was my favorite aspect of the book.

The book focuses on 9 different styles of meditation  to help with focus, security, wisdom, relaxation, kindness, clarity, decision making, control and openness.  With each emotion, the author gives you different meditation techniques to that will help you conquer the negative feelings and replace them with a inner peace. Using an elephant and monkey kids will surely enjoy reading this book while looking at the wonderful illustrations.

My readers know I am all about God to calm my soul, but I still use meditation practices to help me focus my attention on Him. This book is a great tool to teach your children some healthy practices with guidance from parents.

Sit in a chair or cross-legged on a pillow on the floor.
Keep your back straight but not stiff, and put your hands on your knees or in your lap.

Close your eyes or keep them slightly open and stare at a spot on the floor.

Inhale and feel your breath fill up your belly.

Then breathe out slowly. Continue with slow, full breaths during meditation.
