A Place in His Heart (The Southold Chronicles #1)

by

Anglican Mary Langton longs to marry for love. Puritan Barnabas Horton is still in love with his deceased wife and needs only a mother for his two young sons. And yet these two very different people with very different expectations will take a leap of faith, wed, and then embark on a life-changing journey across the ocean to the Colonies. Along the way, each must learn to live in harmony, to wait on God, and to recognize true love where they least expect to find it.

This heartfelt tale of love and devotion is based on debut author Rebecca DeMarino’s own ancestors, who came to Long Island in the mid-1600s to establish a life–and a legacy–in the New World.

My Impressions:
The thing that caught my attention was the cover of this book. It screams romance and adventure. After reading the synopsis and seeing that it was based on real family history I was sold and knew I needed to read it. Needless to say I was not disappointed by what I received. Rebecca did a beautiful job interweaving mystery, romance, intrigue, drama and suspense together with loveable characters that you will think about long after you close the final page of this book.

I adore reading the coming to America stories and getting a  glimpse into the past and how things have changed because of the immigrants that came over. This book is filled with rich ancestry that inspires you and great historical sesttings. The imagery is so powerful within these pages that you feel you are England right beside the hero and heroin in their remarkable journey.  The story was a wonderful reminder of the sacrifices and hardship that was endured for freedom of religion.

All I can leave you with is God if faithful and the characters in this book got a taste of that faithfulness.  I would highly recommend this book to all fans of historical fiction and those that need a reminder that God's timing is the perfect timing.
