Welcome to my post for the Death Has a Daughter book tour! I have a review coming up, as well as a giveaway for copies of Death Has a Daughter. But, first, allow me to introduce the book:

Cendall, history’s first female Grim Reaper, has until her eighteenth birthday to prove she’s worthy of the role. The only obstacle in her way are those pesky Guardian Angels who protect human souls, but Cendall is certain she can handle any Guardian who gets in her way.
However, nothing could have prepared Cendall for Lacie—a soul that is protected by multiple Guardians, wanted by Demons, and, most startling of all, can see Cendall.
Cendall uses every trick in the book to try and slip past Lacie’s Guardians and collect her soul, but a Demon interferes at the last moment. In the chaos, Cendall accidently saves Lacie’s soul, along with one of the injured Guardians. Realizing Cendall fears termination for her mistake, the Guardian blackmails her with an offer she can’t refuse: in exchange for his silence, Cendall must keep Lacie’s soul safe from the Demon, until he recovers from his injuries. Cendall agrees—with the intention of checking Lacie’s soul off her list, the instant the Guardian is healed. But as the three of them are forced to work together, Cendall begins to question why Lacie is wanted by the Demons and if her name actually belonged on Cendall’s list in the first place.
This
was a really great take on the Grim Reaper. Every story I have ever read or
movie I have ever seen always depicts the reaper as a man. It was very clever
and a unique twist to use a young lady instead. It was one of the first things
that drew me to this story. You don’t think of the Reaper as someone that has
anything to prove to themselves, their friends or society so taking this story
as somewhat of a coming of age story was intriguing. A Reaper with something to
prove before she turns eighteen years of age.
The author wrote
the reaper and lesser characters with emotions, not as good, or evil. This
comes through when Cendall becomes attached to a soul she is supposed to
collect. Lacie.
Lacie, is the most sought after soul, but what makes
her unique is that she can actually see Cendall. Cendall seems on track with
her assignment until she inadvertently saves Lacie’s soul and harms the
Guardian that is sworn to protect her. In exchange for his silence Cendall must
become the guardian for the very soul she is trying to take.
For the most part I enjoyed the read. It’s fun and light.
The characters are written to be strong, powerful, full of life and clever with
real emotions and problems they have to overcome. For a YA paranormal I liked it.
Strong female character, light romance, moves quickly, lots of action and
intrigue, secrets and other worlds. I am sure this would be an enjoyable read
for teens and young adults alike.
