Apostle Paul - part of the Get to Know series - is a unique biography about Paul. Focusing on the life and character of this Biblical hero, using color photographs, maps, and other visual resources to tell the whole story, young biography fans will come to learn more about this man of the God, his writings, his impact on the early church, and the role he plays in history. Featuring a bibliography and scriptural references throughout, this is sure to become a favorite for young readers and for first book reports.

My Impression:

Apostle Paul is part of the Get to Know God series by Zonderkidz that is aimed at children ages 6-10. This is the second book we have read in this series. the first one King David my seven year old son loved. One of the best things about these books are that they have all been beautiful illustrated, with bright colors, and bold lettering that really captivate the younger readers and that really draw in the visual learner. The pages are thick enough that they do not rip easy, and have a glossy feel to them making them easy to turn without the pages sticking together.Just as with King David my son picked the pictures apart asking questions from what they were wearing, holding and the scenery in the background. The illustrations and maps really captured his attention and held it while I read the stories.

Each of the books in the series is set up the same way. Within each chapter you get a great story filled with biblical accurate information, a word bank, eyewitness accounts, did you know section, and a bible hero section. Each one of these elements help the reader gain a better understanding of the text by creating a well rounded view of the chapter text. Each section also has its own visual keys so your child knows what type of information he is receiving. For example, the bible hero uses a orange sandaled (not sure that is a word) foot which gives more detailed information about that specific person mentioned outside of Paul. The eye witness accounts uses a red eye and gives you information on a witness to a event or archeological evidence supporting the text. The Did You Know? section is recognized by a blue clay jar that gives the reader fun facts.

At the end of the book there is a great colored time line of Paul's life, ministry and teachings, but even more interesting is the author lines up a world history time line to coincide with the life of Paul allowing for deeper discussion into how these aspects might have effected the life of Paul.  I think its also a great section for those that have older kids to dig deeper into as well. The glossary, found at the end, goes back over all the word bank words that were used without.

My son and I cannot wait to get the next book in this series.

About the Author:

Nancy and Jeff Sanders make their home in southern California. They have two adult sons, Danny and Ben. Their cats Sandman and Pitterpat add lots of hilarious moments to their family.

Jeff is an elementary teacher who loves to work with kids, enjoys telling stories, and finds delight in music. If not reading a biography of Bach or Beethoven, you might find him playing the piano, strumming the guitar, or picking the banjo. He is a native of California.
Nancy grew up the youngest of seven children on a dairy farm in Everett, Pennsylvania. She helped milk the cows, bale the hay, drive the tractor, and pick giant weeds out of their humongous garden. After moving to California when she was 20, Nancy and Jeff met and were married. As a stay-at-home mom for more than 20 years, Nancy found true enjoyment in taking pen to paper and learning the craft of writing.
Much of Nancy’s time is spent writing books and working on various manuscript projects. Her favorite topics to write about are God, Bible stories, educational subjects, and African American history.
