My Impressions:
The Uncommon Marriage Adventure:A Daily Journey to Journey to Draw you Closer to God and Each Other is a wonderful book that takes you on a walk of faith. Working through the 96 core practices and the 8 key principals of a healthy marriage the authors lay out their experience's both good and bad that will guide a couple through the best of times and the worst. As Tony and Lauren share over 30 years of marriage experience with us regarding their faith and what they have learned as a couple you will be able to clearly see how your attitude is the driving force in your marriage.
Some of the things I learned when reading this book are:
- To make Christ the center of your marriage
- Treat your parents and others in authority with respect
- Husbands: Work hard to hear your wife's heart and meet her needs
- Husbands: Be prepared to love sacrificially
- Wives: show love and respect to your husband
- Wives: Strike the right balance between acceptance and expressing your disappointment when following your husbands lead in an area where you disagree
- Wait in God's timing; don't try to make things happen yourself
- Find your identity in Christ, not in the world.
Written as a devotional book for husbands and wives to work through together, you are taken on a 16 week journey that will strength both your marriage and your relationship with God. What I enjoyed the most about this book were the biblical scriptures that they used to back up their core practices and principals. The Adventure Application's were great little challenges sprinkled in throughout each week to help couples put the principals they were learning into practical application. I will admit that before receiving this book I did not know who Tony and Lauren were, but I am glad that I took the time ti read this marriage devotional.
