What I Love Most About My Princess-July

Month: July

Special Days: We didn't have many special days because you were with your daddy most of the month, but I enjoyed the weekends we had together, just being able to cuddle up and hang out with you.

Favorite Stories: I loved watching you scream and carry on over the cute Big Time Rush boys and Cody Simpson. The whole thing made me thin back to when I was young and I was crazy for the boys in the New Kids on the Block. (yes, I am old, we know). Watching you live your life sometimes reminds me of me when I was young and it helps me remember the things that were important at that age. I enjoy watching you be a kid and love life.

Fabulous Photo:

Greatest Quotes: " momma, can....." lately this has been "Momma can Sara come and do... or Momma can Sara and I....." There is a trend. do you see it? Its Sara! Your BFF for life ;) You two are inseparable. Where ever one goes the other wants to follow. So lately, ok every summer, our conversations center around Sara and you doing something.

What has impressed me most about you this month:
This one is hard, with you being gone so much. But I think it woulds be how excited you got when you were asked to babysit the leaders kids for AWANS. You have been DYING to get your hands on the babies and now you get to. Why does this impress me? Simple. It reinforces what I already knew about you. You have a gentle spirit that loves to care for others. You look out for me when I am sick, and even your little brother. You are always trying to find ways to make other people happy and their life easier. It does not go unnoticed.

Where I hope to see you grow: In your Independence. You are trying so hard to find yourself and I hope that you find a style that is all you, but one that will bring honor and glory to God as well. You are trying different music, clothes, language...just trying to find your own unique identity. It is fun to watch, but challenging to live with! You want so badly to be the leader, but you are not accomplishing it, instead you morph into other peoples view of you and how you should be. We try hard to stay out of this and offer biblical guidance to you, but right now I think you view the bible as Gods word as your enemy in some regards. Especially with what we hear and watch and wear. Those are the big issues right now.
My Absolute 3 Favorite Thing We Did Together This Month:

1. Big Time Rush/Cody Simpson Concert-  This was your second concert-...ok 3rd actually (Avril Lavign, Skillet/Toby Mac and now BTR) You were looking forward to this all month long! I don't know what you were more excited about; seeing BTR or getting to take Sara along with you? I guess it will always remain one of those un-answered questions. I got great video of the concert and I love seeing you come alive and be a girl! These are rare times in deed as you find your own identity and I love watching every minute of it. Just FYI: Carlos is your favorite still and you still think Cody is SSSSOOOOO cute!! ( that was for later in life)
2. Six Flags- Rides, rides and more rides. We went for your cousin, Kristian's, birthday. You finally got back on the Mine Train and we also rode the Aqua Man several times, but you did not like it very much, except the bridge. You almost got on the Superman, but when they were loading you on teh ride, you got scared and backed out. You were more mad at yourself than anything. you wanted so badly to be brave and show everyone you could do it. You still conqured your fear though with the roller coasters! Plus you went on the parachutes for the first time. All in all we had a FANTASTIC time. From sun up to sundown it was non stop rides!
3. Swim Time- Who doesn't love to swim. It was more than that. I like seeing you play with your brothers. Its about the only time you guys are not upset over something and I enjoy seeing everyone get along, laughing and playing. I also like just lounging in the chairs with you!

What I Love Most About My Princess-June

Month: June

Special Days: Sitting around watching movies, listening to music and you showing me your art drawings you make on the computer. Also swimming with you.

Favorite Stories: Oh baby, you are my little drama queen right now. Your emotions are all over the place and your hormones are in full gear. The pre-teen year. I cannot say that I am loving it. you test me ALOT and make it challenging for sure. I know understand so much of what my mom must have went through with me. You are tyring to be so independent, but are still so innocent and naive about the world that we but heads on most subjects nowadays. From what we watch, eat, wear, go, etc...its hard. I love you so very much though and know that all these arguments we are having know it ground work for a firm foundation you will develop in Christ. I see such beauty in you already waiting to burst out onto this world it amazes me. My best memory this month is probably over your love of wrestling and my distaste for the things there wear and the language they use. We argue over this alot, way to much. We had to go so far as to change your facebook account to your favorite wrestler "AJ" to show you how easy it it to pretend to be someone you are not on facebook. I still don't think the importance of it has really hit you.

Fabulous Photo:  To come
Greatest Quotes:  "Why do you hate me?" and " They always dated in the Bible to find who they liked so they didn't marry someone bad"  I have heard this too much lately and it all stems all from the topics of dating, modesty, humility, temptation and other character traits your dad and I are trying to instill in you. It is still to this day a fight we will fight. You do not understand why we wont let you date (besides the fact that you are only 12) to why you cannot wear halter tops and skinny jeans to bikinis. you my dear, sweet little girl may be the death of me yet!
What has impressed me most about you this month: Your desire to be independent and do things on your own terms. yes, it drives me BONKERS, but maturity is always welcomed and in our quest to develop our own identities we stumble, make mistakes and dust our selves off. You are doing just that. You stick to what you believe is right and true, even when we don't agree and that does impress me. It shows strength, leadership and says alot about your character. You do not buckle and that is a good thing. You will need that through out life as you stand on Christs will for you and His word that goes against everything this world will try and teach you and mold you into. I know you are planting the foundation of Christ in your heart and your life and I am very proud of you for that.

Where I hope to see you grow: Patience. you are so rushed for everything in life. i wish you would learn to slow down and appreciate what you have now instead of always looking ahead. its good to look for your future and to plan and dream. just don't get so far ahead that you fail to see the gifts and beauty that are in your life know.

My Absolute 3 Favorite Thing We Did Together This Month:

1. Hospital visit- you had swimmers ear! Very painful, very nasty experience. Why than is it on my favorite things I did with you this month? Simple. I made me realize how much you still need me for the small things in life. It also showed me that you are still vulnerable, and that I can easily comfort you and help you with your fear and help you deal with the pain you are feeling by simply being there for you. Sometimes I see how quickly you are growing and how independent you are tyring to be and I forget that you still need me just as much as you did when you were a little girl. This trip was a good reminder to me that although you are growing up.
2. Bible Bee; That's right, bible bee. I entered you in the 2012 National Bible Bee contest. We have over 66 verses to memorize and we are doing a in depth study on 2 Timothy. You are made about it because its a lot of work, but I have faith in you and I know through the Lord you can accomplish all things! More on this to come.
3. Alone Time: We don't get this very often and even when you do its not for very long. I know you keep asking for more mommy/daughter time and I keep meaning to give it to you, but life keeps getting in the way. If  we are lucky we can watch a whole movie uninterrupted or play a complete board game, but its very seldom and getting worse. This is something i promise you I will make more time for. Its important for me to spend quality time with you, bonding, learning about you and sharing life with you. I love hearing about your day. your hopes and dreams. The things that are bothering you and upsetting you too.

What I Love Most About My Munchkin-July

Month: July

Special Days: You got a girlfriend! Yepperes. That makes my list of things that make me happy. Not just that you got a girlfriend, but that you understand that we do not necessarily condone "dating" in the traditional sense, but courting instead. I love getting to watch you learn to deal with women in a Christian manner. To see you opening doors, letting her go first, have concern for her needs etc. You are also learning boundaries with courting as well and what is and not acceptable, but more than that. you are learning how your actions might be viewed by the outside world. I cannot wait to see where this goes and how you change (hopefully for the better) because of this experience in life.

Favorite Stories: Wow, with you its always something that's for sure. So far this month you have shot your brother with the pellet gun, and not just once. You have got your first girl. You are taking drivers Edd and learning to drive. You have so much going on in your life its crazy! My favorite though has to be that I get to teach you to drive! We have gone around the parking lots, the road by our house and you are learning faster than what you think. You have problems with first gear and reverse, but that was to be expected. You are also learning the words "break gently"! I leave that at that, but I am glad my car has air bags :) You are in the process of logging 10 day time hours and 10 night time hours minimum. It is an ADVENTURE, but one I am so glad I get to experience with you and not via your dad or anyone else.

Fabulous Photo:

Greatest Quotes:  "Will you talk to James about...." Fill in the blank here. That is your opening line for everything you want to do, but think he will say no to. you know we talk and discuss everything and make decisions together so I always know when you think your going to get a no when you start off with those words. I can almost guarantee too that it will have something to do with you going somewhere as well! You are our test teenager! The joys of being the oldest we try out what does and does not work on you to use for the other 2:)
What has impressed me most about you this month:
You want to go to church! OK maybe its just because of a girl, but I am actually ok with that. I went to church just to appease someone in the beginning as well and over time I started listening to the message and getting curious about it. Eventually I wanted to go to church on my own for me> My hope is that one day you will want to go for your self and your relationship with your Savior and not for a girl. Until that time though I am willing to accept why you go, but I secretly Iam holding out hope and praying for you daily that the  Lord will enslave your heart to Him through what is going on now.
Where I hope to see you grow:
This is  a toughie actually. You can read the above of course, but its more than that. I want you to want to live a life according the the will of Christ. Especially now that you have found girls and driving and are about to be a man. I want that firm, solid foundation for you. I want to see you have a love for Christ that captivates you and moves all your decisions towards His will for you. I know this is a time thing, and if I push to hard I will have the opposite effect than what I want for your life. So I try to gently guide, but with form rules in place that do glorify God.

My Absolute 3 Favorite Thing We Did Together This Month:
1. 4th of July-Watching you get all wild and crazy, driving around on my car and being wreck less was fun. I like seeing you cut up and enjoy life. You tend to be a little too serious sometimes and I like to see you smile.
2. Driving with you- I don't think I even need to add to this. I have a stick shift, you have never been behind the wheel of any car. Its interesting! I am loving every moment of  it and would not trade it for the world.
3. Watching you with your Nikki- Seeing you grow into a man that wants to look after and take care of someone is nice. To see you as a gentleman and treating her properly. I like seeing the type of girl you are interested in and knowing shes smart, shy, modest, and a child of God warms my heart. She has good character traits and I hope you will always look at the inner person more than the outer, no matter how pretty the girl is. You made a good choice :)

What I Love Most About Drake-July

Month: July

Special Days: You are finally letting me read to you again. So I am loving it. Every night you pick out 2 books right before bed and we sit and cuddle together while I read to you. I have started giving you words for you to learn to recognize so you can read along with me as well. Right now they are "you", "Mamma", "I" and "it"....You get them right about 40% of the time, but you are doing wonderful.

Favorite Stories:  Since your brother moved back in this summer, you are having a hard time dealing with the extra time taken away from you. You have started locking the door when you want your "mommy cuddle time" and yell at anyone that tries to come in and interrupt it, no matter who it is. You still call me every morning when you wake up with "Mommy, I need you!" i don't think I will ever get tired of that.

Fabulous Photo:
Greatest Quotes: "Mommy why are they doing that?" This was a question to posed when we were at the zoo and we saw to mandrill's. The boys was grabbing at the girl trying to turn her around and she was fighting back. I had to explain that they were trying to make babies. It was quickly followed by a "yuk" when the male got ahold of the female.
What has impressed me most about you this month: You are getting better every day with your manners. You are also learning to control that temper of yours. You door slamming and screaming are diminishing little by little, but you are still working on it. You also have started expanding your prayer communication with God. No longer do you just stick to the poetry prayer you learned when you were baby, but you have started to really communicate with God during the day and at night! This is the greatest thing I want for you. For you to really build an open and honest relationship with your Savior.
Where I hope to see you grow: This sounds like a broke record, but really it is the thing we are working on the most with you and that  is your temper and controlling your emotions. You are gradually getting better, but you still have a difficult time expressing yourself when you are frustrated or feel rejected. You are learning to open up and talk more before you loose control, which is a step in the right direction, but you still slam doors, scream, back talk and sass off to everyone. We have all banned together to help you gently correct this before it becomes too much of a habit for you and even more difficult to break.

My Absolute 3 Favorite Thing We Did Together This Month:
1. Survival Skills Class- we went to Bass Pro Shop and we did survival training. You learned to shoot a bow and arrow, a Beebe gun and also how to cast a line to fish. This, of course you already knew. You also got to go on a scavenger hunt and learn about tracking skills of different types of wild life you might encounter in the woods.
2. Big Time Rush/Cody Simpson Concert-This was your very first concert and it was great. You went with Delaney, Sara and Me and you had a blast. You sang along to all the songs, you yelled, clapped, and danced. It was a thrill to watch you get so excited over seeing a band you like live. We even had to endure some rain, and the concert was outdoors.
3. 4th of July- Obvious I know, but I love the 4th and this year you got to light all your own fireworks. Your favorite was the ladybug you picked out. You did Roman Candles, Rockets, Sparklers, Firecrackers, and so much more. Plus, you got to ride on the hood of my car around the pond several times with your brother. Something you had never been able to do before. It was a fabulous day!

Family Game Time

 Family Game Time

Board games have become synonymous with family time these days. They offer a rare opportunity to pry the kids away from the TV and sit down as a family to enjoy each other’s conversation and company. And with the hectic lives we all lead, they are a great way to get to really get to know each other. With this in mind, we have created the All About Me! board game. That’s right- your very own personalized family board game!

Here’s how you do it!

First, answer your favorite 25 questions from the list below with your family. Using a stack of flashcards, write the question on one side, and the answer on the other. For example: One side of the card will say, “What is Frankie’s favorite food?” and the other side will say, “ Cheese pizza”. This is your chance to be creative, so feel free to add any other questions you think your family would enjoy answering. The idea is that it is a trivia game centered around your family, so they don’t necessarily need to be challenging questions, just fun ones. Print out your pint-sized game board and get ready to play!

The Rules of the game

  1. 1. Start out with one die. Each person takes turns rolling the die and the person with the highest roll starts the game off and the order follows numerically.
  2. Each person can choose a different type of coin to be their marker on the game board
  3. The first player rolls the die to see how many spaces they can potentially move and picks an index card from the top of the stack ( without looking at the answer). They must read the question aloud so everyone can hear. They have at most 2 minutes to answer the question. Once they select the answer, another player flips the card over and verifies if it is correct or not. If the answer is right, the player moves the amount of spaces they rolled. If they are incorrect, they stay where they are.
  4. The game proceeds in this way until someone reaches the end.
  5. You will notice that there are character faces on the board. If you land on one and get the answer correct, you get to double the amount of spaces you move.
  6. If you land on a mud puddle, you are stuck there until you answer two consecutive questions correctly.

When I hear "romance novel" the first thought that comes to my mind is a book filled with raunchy sex, inappropriate relationships, infidelity, etc. This book was not like that at all and I was so thankful!! I personally  am more  of a murder-mystery/true crime type of gal, and  all my "knowledge" of romance novels comes from  the 2 others I read years ago, whose titles I shall not mention, but they did not leave a good impression upon me. My mother-in-law on the other hand is obsessed with romance novels and has read some of the previous books by Ms. Bergren and highly recommended them to me, so I figured what the heck I would give them on last try. I am so grateful that I did.

From a Christian point of view the author did a fabulous job of mixing some of the basic elements you would find in a romance novel  while still representing her faith in God without coming across as uptight and preachy. I loved the conflicts within the story that kept our heroin, Reyne, and our hero, Logan, discovering each other on new levels and facing life's difficulties together. The romance, intrigue, conflict,  sexual temptation and tension, and Christian morals and values were represented well and flowed easily within the plot, making the story believable and easy to fall into. The Characters were well rounded and the author did a wonderful job of developing characters that drew you into their lives and let you feel like you know them beyond there love interest.  You also find beautifully written support characters that you fall in love with and they take you on a marvelous journey right along with our heroin and hero as well.

Got you attention yet? Want a little peak inside the story itself? Just keep reading.....

"As a smoke jumper, Reyne Oldre--friend to Rachel Tanner and Beth Morgan (Refuge)--once led a team of courageous firefighters into a blaze that ended in unspeakable tragedy. Now crippled by fear, she conducts fire research from a safe distance, determined not to risk that kind of pain again. But when the flames of love begin to flicker between her and smoke jumper Logan McCabe, Reyne must face the fearsome storms from her past and battle the raging Firestorm that burns in her soul."

Due to more mature situations I would not recommended this book for anyone younger than  High-school age and up.
